Walter Lewis "Tater" Bennett, 68, of Pointview Lane, Lincolnton, passed away Monday, August 21, 2006.
He was born in West Virginia July 7, 1938, the son of the late William O. Bennett and Mary E. Norman Bennett. He was retired from Carolina Freight and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr.Bennett was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Betty Short Bennett of the home; a son, Walter Bennett, II, and wife Jenny of Lincolnton; three daughters, Lisa Jenkins and husband Bob of Taylorsville, Angela Hill and husband Robert of Raleigh, and Wanda Bennett of Lincolnton; two sisters, Charlotte Mahan of Douglasville, Ga., and Carlene Deneen of California; and seven grandchildren, Hayley Dellinger of the home, Joshua and Meredith Hill of Raleigh, Jacob and Gavin Bennett, and Dustin and Alan Crowder.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, August 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Baptist Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service.
