My Dear Mother was a beautiful person both inside and out. She was always dressed in the best that she could afford, with matching shoes, hats and accessories.
I think she must have had over thirty pairs of shoes! I remember asking her why she had so many shoes. She replied, "I want to look the best for my public".
She worked at the Gourmet Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge on Champa Street in Denver, Colorado, which was owned by Sam Ellis.
She had many, many loyal customers who said the reason they came to eat and drink there, was because of her. It wasn't unusual for her to come home with nearly $100.00 in tips. Quite a sum in the mid-1960s.
My Mother worked very hard to support myself, my two brothers and sister. We never went to bed hungry and never had holes in our clothes, unlike so many of the other kids. We also knew that she loved us very much.
Corrine was the daughter of Louise (DeLorenzo) and Ben Martinez; the sister of Margie Gonzales, Rita Merat and the late Raymond Martinez; Sister-in-law of Ishmael D. Gonzales.
She was married to Lawrence J. Rivera and Marion Albert Carranza. I (Benjamin M. Martinez) was born from a union she had with Phillip N. Roybal.Findagrave #35741893
Corrine was the mother of Lawrence and Raymond Rivera (both deceased), and of Benjamin M. Martinez and Lorrie Gallegos-Garcia (Carranza). She was the Grand-daughter of Esther L.(DeLorenzo) and Raymond Romero.
My dear Mother was tormented by severe depression and other demons.
May She Rest in Peace at Last.
