Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Thursday, August 29, 1935

Andrew Jones, 89 years of age and a veteran of the Civil war, died shortly before noon Wednesday in Pershing hospital a the Soldiers' Home following an extended illness. He had been a patient at the hospital for a number of years.

Born in Porter county, Indiana, May 26, 1846, Mr. Jones served two enlistments in the Union army, with Co. A, Sixth Heavy Artillery from Dec. 31, 1863, to Nov. 10, 1864, and with Co. I, 12th Michigan Infantry, from March 25, 1865, to Feb. 15, 1866. A widower, he was admitted to membership in the Home, from Blair, Neb., Oct 13, 1925.

His wife by a second marriage, the ceremony taking place here July 17, 1932, (and) a son, Fred W. Jones, residing at Stromsburg, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive to mourn his passing. Mrs. Jones also is a patient in Pershing hospital.

Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed at noon today but it was probable that the body will be taken to Herman, Neb., for burial.
