Ira Burton Blackstock, prominent business man and philanthropist, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at St. John's hospital following several months' illness. He was the son of Robert and Emily Mehara Blackstock.
Mr. Blackstock had been prominent in the Methodist Episcopal church for many years. He was a trustee of the First M. E. church in this city, and was elected a member of the general conference of Methodist churches four times. He was appointed a member of the ecumenical conference of Methodist churches held at London in 1921 and was again appointed to the ecumenical conference to be held at Atlanta, Ga., during October of this year. He was also a member of the book committee of the Methodist church.
Since June 9, 1924, decedent had been president of the Springfield Art association. He made several generous donations to the association and devoted a great deal of time and money to its up-building.
Mr. Blackstock was graduated from DePauw university at Greencastle, Ind., in 1886. He had been a trustee of that school for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary J. Hardtner; a sister, Mae Blackstock, and several other relatives.
