She graduated in 1959 from North Clarion High School. Bernice was married Dec. 30, 1958, to Beryl D. Reitz, who survives. Bernice enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was involved in an accident on May 24, 1977, that left her confined to a wheelchair.
She enjoyed designing computer greeting cards, reading and fundraising for the March of Dimes. She began her work with the March of Dimes in 1981 and this past year reached her goal of raising $100,000. Bernice was also a past member of the Lucky Twirlers Square Dance Club. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Timothy Reitz and his wife, Lynn, of Lucinda, Theodore Reitz of Venus, Gary Reitz and his wife, Estella, of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Brenda A. Manno and her husband, Robert, of Shippenville.
She was very proud of her seven grandchildren: Mandy Swaffard, Shelby Reitz, Wyatt Reitz, Brittany Reitz, Gwyn Manno, Dominick Manno and Jadyn Manno. Bernice also is survived by three sisters, Ann Love of Strattanville, Helen Goreczny of Oil City and Deborah Beichner of Kossuth; and a brother, Daniel Schill of Venus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Kaltenbach and Michael Schill.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m today at Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. A parish vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael Church with the Rev. David Poulson, pastor, as the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery following the Mass.
