SPARR -- Shelton Powell, 75, a retired truck driver with Certified Grocers of Florida, Inc. for 26 years, died Feb. 1, 1993, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River.
Mr. Powell was a native of Georgia and was a resident of Sparr for more than 50 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Marion Post in Citra. He loved fishing and camping.
Mr. Powell was an active member of Sparr United Methodist Church.
"He mowed the lawn for the church and sometimes we would clean the church together. He was a good Christian," said Bertha B. Powell, the deceased's wife of only 15 months.
Mrs. Powell said she could never express the feelings of how her husband will be missed. She wishes they could have had more time together, but she is grateful for the time they had. "I loved him and he loved me," she said.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Powell is survived by his daughter, Sybil Lloyd, Ocala; sons, Gene Powell, Ocala, Clifford Strickland, Hollister, and Terry Gilmore, Palatka; sisters, Elsie Jones, Hawthorne, and Judy Seeber, Fort Myers; brothers, Bill Powell, Orange Springs, and Charles Powell, Belleview; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
