Gary Magee was born on June 21, 1954, in Brookhaven, and passed away on August 31, 2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson after a brief, but very serious battle with kidney cancer. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon is in charge of the service, with visitation being from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home. Services are at Pinelake Church on Friday Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., with interment at Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery.
Gary was a real estate appraiser and a graduate of Pearl High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he completed his MBA degree. He was a member of the Appraisal Institute, The Mortgage Bankers Association, The National Assn. of Realtors Appraisal Division, The Miss. Assn. of Realtors Commercial Division, The Flowood Chamber of Commerce, The Central Miss. USM Alumni Chapter, where he served as a volunteer, and the Rankin County Republican Party. He was a member of Pinelake Church. He was an avid supporter of Golden Eagle Athletics, especially football, and his hobbies included golf and fishing.
Gary is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy Hawkins Magee, and a daughter Paige Lofton Magee, both of Brandon. He is also survived by his parents, S.E. and Helen Magee, of McCall Creek; his brother Larry Magee (Cathy) of Dallas, Texas, and brother, Dr. Steve E. Magee Jr. (Janet), of Brandon. He is also survived by his nephews, Edward Magee (Jessica) and Michael Magee (Erin), both of Dallas, Brian (Tiffany) Hawkins, of Ridgeland, Jeremy (Carla) Phillips of Richland, Adam Phillips, of Terry; and one niece, Erin Hawkins Aguilar, of Crystal Springs.
Pallbearers are Paul Hawkins of Gallman, Brian Hawkins of Ridgeland, Bob Collins of Daphne, Ala., Steve Walker of Biloxi, Pat Wylie of Birmingham, Ala. and Mike Hammer of Baltimore, Md.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of The Appraisal Institute, Members of the Mississippi Appraisal Board, and the USM Eagle Club.
