S.L. Insurance Executive Dies
Special to The Tribune HOLLADAYŚW. Douglas Allen, 57, 2600 Verona Cl. (5135 South), a Salt Lake insurance executive and former Murray City judge, died of a cerebral
hemorrhage Monday in a Helena, Mont., hospital while on a business trip.
MR. ALLEN had been president of the Sentinel Security Life Insurance Co. since its incorporation in 1948 and had recently been named president of the United Reserve Underwriting Corp., Billings, Mont. In 1940 he was elected as the first Murray City judge, serving until 1950.
HE WAS a practicing Salt Lake attorney from the time he was admitted to the Utah Bar in 1937 until 1955. He served two terms as a representative to the Utah Legislature in 1937 and 1939. A licensed embalmer and funeral director, Mr. Allen was a part-owner of the Jenkins Mortuary from 1925 to 1955 and had served terms as president and secretary-treasurer of the Utah Funeral Directors and Embalmers Assn. He also was a member of the National Funeral Directors Assn.
In 1958 HE was elected president of the Ambassador Athletic Club and previously served as president of the Muray Lions Club, Murray Chamber of Commerce and the Murray City Board of Education. A graduate of the University of Utah Law School, he was a member of the Utah State Bar and the American Bar Assn. He had attended the LDS Business College and the Cincinnati College of Embalming.
BORN AUG. 11,1904, In Salt Lake City, Mr. Allen was a son of Wilford J. and Maud Bliss Allen. He married Viola Jenkins, who died June 21, 1952. He married Viola S. Allen on July 16, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his widow; four sons, Gary Kim Allen, Salt Lake City; Douglas R. Allen, New York City; Ronald J. Allen, Torrance, Calif.; Bruce A. Allen, Santa Rosa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, his mother, Salt Lake City; a stepson and a stepdaughter, Eldon R. Allen, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Joan A. Hall, Vernal.
OTHER SURVIVORS are four brothers and two sisters: Lt. Cmdr. Bruce B. Allen, San Bruno, Calif.; Duane K.. Alien, Managua, Nicaragua; Lorin S. Allen, St. Paul, Minn.; Arthur E. Allen, Sandy; Mrs. C. Bicknell (Ruby) Robbing, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Alfred (Mignon)
