Services for Owen Newton Almon, 91, of Gainesville, are set for 10 a.m. today at Clement-Keel Chapel with Dr. Bennie Slack, pastor of First Baptist Church of Montague, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clement-Keel Funeral Home.
Mr. Almon died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Renaissance Care Center.
He was born Feb. 8, 1913 in Gainesville to Luby and Katherine (Newton) Almon. In Marietta, Okla., on July 9, 1933, he married Alice Davison. Mr. and Mrs. Almon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983. Mr. Almon was employed as a lease superintendent in the oil field industry before retiring. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 67 years. He held a life membership in the Gainesville Masonic Lodge and was past Master. He also was past Patron of the Belle Moon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, son and daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Burney Almon; sisters, Vera Sampley, Uca Almon and Mable Kaylor.
Pallbearers are Joe A Wilson, Leo Lawson, Starling Lawson, Harold Almon, Turner Almon, Don Rolf, Wade Orsburn and Lloyd Nichols.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Riley and Doug Martin.
