Reuben was married for a short time in 1876 to Lusarah Cheek Walkup, with whom he had a daughter, Mary Ellen. A veteran of the Civil War, Reuben lived the last 13 years of his life at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Leavenworth, KS.
