James Joseph Kinney Died: At St. Francis Hospital, Grand Island, of Dropsy, on Wednesday, November 7, 1917. James Joseph Kinney, aged 70 years, 7 months, and 23 days. He was born at Rochester, New York, on March 14, 1847, and was married to Miss Mary Harbison, at Pontiac, Illinois, in January 1875, who passed away in March 1916. To this union 9 children were born , 6 boys and three girls,as follows: Alice, Mrs. Agnes Schaubel, Edward, Martin, Joseph, George, Mrs Dan Rummel, Paul and Bernard, all of whom are living. They came to Nebraska in 1880 and have lived near Bartlett most of the time since 1900, having lived the past eighteen months a few miles southeast of Erickson with his son Bernard.
Mr. Kinney and his family is well and favorably known in this part of the country and their host of friends will join us in extending their heart felt sympathy to the children in their hour of bereavement.

Obituary James J. Kinney Laid Away

On Wednesday, November 7th, at the ripe age of 70 years, 7 months, and 24 days, James J. Kinney passed away at St. Francis hospital, Grand Island. The immediate cause of his of his death was dropsy and heart trouble, he having suffered from the former disease a long time. This rugged, kindly old man was well known in this part of the country. Like many another of the old pioneers, He came to this part of the country to make a home for his family.
Like others , He braved life's battle and laid the foundation for the future upon virgin soil.
Honest and industrious he made a friend of everyone. His heart was always in the right place, and in that court were every man shall be tried for his true worth and where no dollars can be pledged as evidence of right living, James J. Kinney will receive his reward. Left an orphan at 7 years he early began lifes work. He married at Pontiac, Illinois to Mary
Harbison on January 26, 1875, and at his death leaves a family grown to manhood and womanhood. This good man was buried from St. Micheals church on last Friday morning.
A high mass was celebrated by Father Galvin and many old friends attended his funeral.
