GAFFNEY-Fred R. Atkinson, 75, husband of Mrs. Emma Huskey Atkinson of Route 3, Cherokee Creek community, died at 11 a.m. Sunday in Cherokee Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Native of Cherokee County; son of the late James Edward and Louise Arms Atkinson; member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church; retired farmer and carpenter.

Also surviving; daughters, Mrs. Miles Ellis and Mrs. Charles McCraw of Gaffney; son, Huntley Atkinson of Charlotte; sisters, Mrs. Eula Ruppe of Cliffside, Mrs. Ola Hammett of Inman, Mrs. Nell Isreal of Caroleen, Mrs. Charles Odell of Eden, NC; brother, Terrell Atkinson of Spartanburg; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
