"Fritz" served in the U.S. Army during World War II; he was stationed for four years on Attu Island in the Aleutian chain near Alaska. He held the rank of TEC 5 (a specialty rank established by the Army in WW-II; equivalent to the rank of "corporal", but without command authority).
After the war he was discharged from the Army and worked for Standard Oil in El Segundo, CA until moving to Missouri. "Fritz" never married; he died from ischaemic heart disease (i.e., heart failure with contributing conditions of senile dementia, hypothyroidism & renal insufficiency) on 22 June 1997 in Springfield, MO at age 79.
