Memorial services for Joan Christian, 65, of Lubbock will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Unitarian-Universalist Church with the Rev. Alfred Judd officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock.

She died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.

She was born July 17, 1936, in Donna and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1957. She was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honorary in that year. She taught junior high English in Corpus Christi and Austin, and at Westlake High as well. She married Duane Christian on June 1, 1960, in Donna.

She moved to Lubbock in 1971. She taught English and humanities at Dunbar High for 10 years, and English at Monterey High School for 10 years. She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Lubbock for 30 years, and was active in the Mount Desert District of that denomination for several years. She worked as a volunteer for the South Plains Wildlife Center.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sherilyn Christian of Dallas; a son, Doug of Lubbock; and a brother, Horton Prather of Atlanta, Ga.
