long one of the most respected citizens of this city, died at StFrancis hospital yesterday afternoon [9-16]. A native of Minnesota, he came to this city in 1872 & has lived here ever since, residing at 332 Anapamu St. He was a prominent member of the Grand Army of the Republic & served with Company H, 7th Regiment, WI Vol Inf. He was formerly a buggy & wagon manufacturer & a member of the firm of Hunt & Bates of this city, MrHunt retiring from the firm a num-ber of years ago & MrBates continuing the business for some time afterward. The building where the Dodge car office is now located was built for him. He was also one of the pio-neer lemon growers of Montecito.
He leaves to mourn his death, 3 daughters & 8 sons as follows: MrsRichard Kennedy-this city, MrsW H Muzzall-owner of Stanley Park Inn & MrsLouise Wickham-WV. The sons are Don, Fred & Laurence-Santa Barbara; Raymond-an engineer on the Valley branch of the Southern Pacific railroad; William-who resides in this city but who is at present in Arizona or Utah on a mining proposition; Eugene who resides in the state of Washington & CharlesR who lives near Bakersfield.
Funeral services will be held at the residence, tomorrow afternoon [9-18] under the auspices of the Grand Army of the Republic.
