HEART BEATS ON THOUGH PIERCED WITH IRON ROD
Kewanee, IL, Aug. 14 - Pierced through the heart and conscious, Adrian Arnold, 16 years of age, bled to death yesterday afternoon when the Ford automobile which he was driving went over the eighteen foot embankment of the road to Erie.

Young Arnold, whose home is in Annawan, with five companions was driving to Erie to attend a ball game. When on the high banked road just south of Erie, he turned out to pass another automobile. The rear wheels of his machine skidded in the soft dirt at the edge of the embankment and the car and its occupants pitched over the side of the bank and turning over and over, fell to the ground, eighteen feet below.

All six of the boys were pinned under the wrecked car. The sharp end of one of the iron bars supporting the top of the machine, which had been broken in the fall, pierced young Arnold through the heart. Though conscious he was unable to move, and bled to death within fifteen minutes. His companions were unable to extricate themselves.

The occupants of the car that the Arnold boy had passed, returned to the spot where the car had toppled over and went to the boys' assistance.

Young Arnold by this time had lapsed into unconsciousness and was in a dying condition. Rolls Boyd was the only other occupant of the car who suffered serious injury, his collar bone being broken. The others were only bruised and considerably shaken up.

Dr. C.M. Fry of Sterling, coroner of Whiteside County, held an inquest in Annawan last evening over the body of Adrian Arnold.
