Mr. Dial was born in Los Angeles to George and Emma (Watson) Dial.
He graduated from high school and served in the Navy for four years.
He was employed as a field engineer for many years. He worked for Ford Aerospace and Lockheed Martin and designed part of the space shuttle for NASA.
Among his interests was building steam trains.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Dial, who he married on July 2, 1983, in England; daughters Robin Humphreys of Ashland and Heather and Fionna Linnitt of England; son Michael Dial of San Diego; grandchildren, Danielle and Joshua; great-grandchild Sommer; and numerous other relatives and friends.
