Joseph Henry Adams, age 94, of Kilmarnock, passed away at his home on Friday, February 29, 2008. For more than fifty years, Mr. Adams and his wife, Laura Anna Turner Adams, who died in 2001, owned and operated Adams Jewelry Store on Main Street in Kilmarnock. During this time, Mr. Adams developed his craftsmen skills in jewelry making and watch repair.
Mr. Adams was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he previously served on the Vestry. He graduated from Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond with a Fine Arts Degree and received his Master's Degree from the College of William and Mary Extension.
During the 1940's Mr. Adams taught High School Industrial Art in West Point. For several summers he worked at the Pamunkey Indian Reservation helping create advanced glazes for their pottery. After relocating to Kilmarnock in the mid 1940's, Mr. Adams taught pottery classes, He also was known locally for his talent as a watercolor artist. He helped establish the Rappahannock Art League of which he was a charter member. In later years, Mr. Adams continued his childhood pursuit in the building of model airplanes. Locally he was known as an avid model airplane hobbyist.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday March 3rd at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in Kilmarnock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kilmamock Animal Welfare.
