John King, Pioneer of Greenwood, Is Dead
John King, aged farmer of the Gonvick community died on Thursday morning at his home northeast of that village. His death was due to infirmities of old age and followed a lingering illness. He was 77 years of age and had lived on a farm in Greenwood township.
Mr. King was born in Indiana Oct. 14th, 1851 and came to Minnesota as a young man and located in the southern part of the state. He moved north when the Thirteen Towns was opened for settlement and took a homestead in the territory south of McIntosh where the township of King was later organized, drawing its name from the King family. In 1896 he moved to the vicinity of Gonvick and had resided there continuously except for a four year period when he lived at Virginia, this state.
Mrs. King and six sons survive him. They are Marvin, Peter, Henry of Gonvick, Elmer of Virginia, Freeman of Pheonix, Arizona, and Ephraim of Plaza, N. D.
Funeral services were held at McIntosh from the Congregational church.
