Roger L. Bestul, 73, of 427 Harrison St., North Fond du Lac, passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008.

Roger was born in New Hope, on May 28, 1934, the son of Carl and Lydia Austreng Bestul.

On June 9, 1956, he married Shirley Stephany at Fort Polk, La.

He attended Amherst Junction Elementary School and graduated from Amherst High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Roger was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. Before his retirement, Roger was a truck driver for 35 years for CW Transport, and was an owner/operator.

He is survived by Shirley, his wife for more than 51 years; his four children, Keith (Lueanne) Bestul, Kathy Bestul (friend Doug Mortensen), Kevin (Edie) Bestul, and Kaye (Ernie) Giesegh; grandchildren, Kristin, Kory, and Kyle Bestul, Joshua (Jill) Bestul, Amiee, Duane and Eric Mekka, Clinton, Lydia and Oliver Bestul, and Dan Giesegh; great-grandchildren, Austin and Allison Bestul and Jasmine Mekka; brothers and sisters, Evelyn Thompson, Marwin (Pat) Bestul, Alan (Rita) Bestul and Shirley (Roger) Wagner; brothers-in-law, Roger (Leona) Stephany and Joseph (Sue) Stephany; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his in-laws, Othmar and Lillian Bertram Stephany; his brother, Ernie Bestul; his sister-in-law, Esthelyn Bestul; his brothers-in-law, Ralph Thompson and John Plowman; and his niece, Janice Stephany.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. The Rev. Joseph Coerber will preside. Cremation will follow with burial of cremated remains at the church cemetery in spring.

A memorial in his name will be established. The family appreciates your prayers and thoughts for Roger, a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather.
