Albert 0. Barnes, 80, died Saturday morning at Community Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Anderson and lived here most of his life.

He was founder of the A O. Barnes Co., which he operated for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the Anderson Rotary Club and was active in work at the YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America. He was a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award and had served as a trustee for the YWCA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Helen (Watts); two daughters, Mrs. John (Cynthia) Vajner of Anderson and Betsey A. Bachman of Anderson; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private memorial services will be conducted following cremation. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson YMCA, the Crossroads Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Christian Center or Community Hospital. Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
