| Birth: | May 30, 1901 Warsaw, Poland | | Death: | Sep. 3, 1990 Warsaw, Poland | Entertainer. Real name Mieczyslaw Fogiel. He was one of the most popular Polish singers of the 20th century. Starting his career well before World War II, he traveled the country first in vaudeville acts and later toured the world with his own song-and-dance group. He was able to sing in different languages, which made him very popular with his audiences outside of Poland. After the war in 1945 he opened the first Music Cafe in the still mostly destroyed city of Warsaw. Though not very successful as a businessman, he continued to travel the world and give concerts well into his 80s. His career spanned over 60 years, during which he claimed to have given over 16,000 concerts worldwide. (bio by: Frank K.) Family links: Spouse: Irena Fogg (1904 - 1983)* *Calculated relationship
