Calvin Birdsong, 18, of Prospect died Tuesday evening as a result of an accidental gunshot wound.
Birdsong accidently shot himself sometime between 11:00-11:47 a. m. Tuesday at his home. He told his mother he was trying to take the magazine off the rifle not realizing the gun was loaded nor that the safety was off. Birdsong was shot in the chest.
The Giles County Ambulance Service transported him to Giles County Hospital.
Birdsong is survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Birdsong of Prospect and one brother, James Birdsong who is in the U. S. Coast Guard stationed at Mobile, Alabama.
Queen Ann Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements which were incomplete at press time.
