Death has made many sad homes in our quiet town within the past few months, and again we are called to lose another prominent citizen. Nelson A. Wetmore departed this life at the family residence on Thursday evening of last week, April 6, in the 78th year of his age, after a long illness from general debility and his advanced age. He leaves a widow, five sons, Edwin H., J. R. and Arthur R., of this place, James C., of Rochester and Dr. Frank Wetmore of Wisconsin; and two daughters, Mrs. Frances Secor of Wayland, and Mrs. Lydia Adams of Rochester, to mourn his loss. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. A. North and Mrs. L. Tiffany who reside here and Mrs. M. A. Monk of Honeoye, who were all present, and two brothers, John and Joseph, who reside in the west and were not here.

Mr. Wetmore was born in Canadice, Ontario county, in May, 1821, and lived on the old homestead there until he came to North Cohocton 40 years ago, and engaged in the mercantile business, building up a most successful and prosperous trade which was carried on later in life by his sons. About 55 years ago he was married to Miss Sallie A. Robinson of Springwater, a sister of the late Edwin Robinson of that place. Deceased was a thorough-going, honest, upright man, honored and respected by his friends and neighbors.

The funeral was held at the residence with a large attendance. Rev. W. I. Janes spoke very feelingly from Psalms 103:13 "Like as a father pitieth' his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him." Rev. R. F . Dutcher was present and offered prayer and Dr. Evans of the Presbyterian church was also present. There were two choice selections of music given. The first was given by Mr. and Mrs. F . A. Wetmore, and the second by Mrs. Carrie Humphrey of Livonia Station, assisted by her brother, James Robinson, of Springwater valley, and Mrs. Frank Wetmore of this place, all nieces and nephews of the deceased. There were many lovely flowers upon the casket. The children were all present at the funeral and the sons acted as bearers. Burial in the family lot in Clearview cemetery.
