He was Brazil's top Formula One race car driver who participated in 73 World Championship Grand Prix races. He began racing in Brazil in the late 1960s, traveled to Europe in 1970 and competed in the British Formula Three, winning the Forward Trust championship in a Lotus car. On March 4, 1972, he debuted in his first Formula One Grand Prix world circuit race season and took first place at the South African Grand Prix. In 1975, he won Brazilian Grand Prix and his last race was at the 1977 South African Grand Prix finishing sixth. Pace was killed in a light aircraft plane accident at age 32.
