John James "J.J." Aulgur, 82, of Jefferson City, formerly of Saline County, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 7, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Don Simmons officiated. Pianist Julie Lewis played "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Dennis Klenke, Randy Rife, Arron Smith, Terry Phegley, Paul Aulgur and Jimmie Aulgur. Honorary pallbearers were J.W. Bales, Dale Norfleet, Bill and Nancy Phegley, Bobby and Pat Mullins, Janice Klenke, Pearl Gerken and Irvin Aulgur Jr. Burial with military rites was in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to New Salem Baptist Church or Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Saline County, he was the son of the late William Roland Aulgur and Mary Elizabeth Clark Aulgur. On June 26, 1949, in Herndon, he married Irene Joyce Henley, who preceded him in death Jan. 8, 1998. He had worked for Arabian-American Oil Company for three years in Saudi Arabia and six years in the state of California. He then returned to Saline County, where he was a farmer for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 191 in Marshall and New Salem Baptist Church in Marshall Junction.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcia E. Gerken of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Eugene Aulgur and Leroy Franklin Aulgur.
