Solomon and Mary Ann Bell married in Monroe County, Tennessee December 19, 1844. Solomon was twenty years old, Mary Ann was fourteen. They had a family of five small children when they moved to Dade County, Missouri from Monroe County, Tennessee in 1857. The family first lived near Liberty Church, then moved to their permanent farm home north of Everton in the Hampton community. Solomon kept his farm,but built a two-story white frame house in 1881 in the new town of Everton. He and Mary Ann lived there about eight years. After Solomon's death, Mary Ann returned to the farm home and lived there until she died in 1906. The last of the family to live in the Everton house was Solomon and Mary Ann's youngest child Veda and her children. Veda owned the house until her death in 1960.

Solomon was a prominent farmer and business man in the community. He and his sons raised cattle, had an commercial apple business, owned the Bank of Everton and other businesses. He was a Democrat, member of Everton Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.
