Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth (Huston) lost three of their children to scarlet fever (Henrietta, Anna, and Charles) while Daniel was gone for only two weeks to his old home in York, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Bayler was laid to rest beside his children by the brethren of the orders of "Sons of Temperance" and "Silver Wave Temple of Honor." As a mark of respect for the deceased, their emblems and badges were shrouded n mourning for thirty days.
