Allen Grant Dead
This morning at 5 o'clock Allen Grant, one of the old timers of this county, died at his home in the "pocket" at the age of 74 years. A short time since he contracted a case of pneumonia and this, assisted by his advanced age, was too much for physician's skill and he died. He was a native of Scotland. For many years he has resided in this county and has always been considered by those with whom he has had business dealings to be honest and liberal. He leaves a family of a wife, one son and three daughters, and one step-son and seven step-daughters. The funeral will take place Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the family residence near the junction of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus rivers.
Rosine and Allen had four children, their first, a son named Allen Grant Jr. died as an infant about 1882, and may be buried at the property that they owned which was near the Stanislaus and San Joaquin Rivers at Gates and Beckwith roads. According to the cemetery records, Allen Grant was buried 13 miles west of Modesto, most likely this was at his property and they both were buried there, but this is not confirmed. After Allen Jr. died, they had John Albert Grant, Jeannette (Grant) Crispin, and Alina V. (Grant) Hoffman.
