ROUTT COUNTY LOSES A PRECIOUS PIONEER

Hattie May DORR, one of the earliest residents in the Yampa area, passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in Denver on April 23, 1968. She was 87 years old at the time of her death.

Born in Westborough, Atchison County, Missouri on November 7, 1881, her maiden name was Hattie May LARAMORE. When she was only 2 years of age, the LARAMORE family moved west and were among the first settlers in the Yampa area of Routt county. This was in the year 1883.

She was raised on her parents ranch in the Sidney valley. On September 10, 1903, she married Frank Elmer DORR in a ceremony held at Hahn's Peak, then the county seat for Routt county.

The young couple homesteaded in the Cow Creek area and called this home for the next 39 years. Mr. DOOR passed away on December 30, 1923 and Mrs. DORR then moved to Steamboat Springs. She made her home here until October, 1964 when she moved to Golden, Colorado. She had lived with her daughter there until the time of her death.

This pioneer woman had taken time from her busy life of ranching and raising 7 children to take an active part in several local organizations. Among them were the Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Auxiliary and the Gold Star Mothers.

Surviving are three sons, Elmer and Henry, both of Steamboat, and Edgar of Denver; three daughters, Hazel NELSON of Steamboat, Opal WOOD of Golden, Colorado, and Edith STENZEL of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, John LARAMORE of Steamboat; three sisters, Viola STAPLETON of Grand Junction, Opal PAGE and Mina SCHMIDT of Steamboat; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One son, Michael, was killed in World War II in Germany on April 11, 1945.

Services were held at the Root Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. J. Thomas Bennanzar officiated and interment was in the Steamboat Cemetery.

Henry Zehner, accompanied by Maxine Ohman on the organ, sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset".

Pallbearers were Ted DORR, Newton DORR, Robert DORR, Mike DORR, Fred DORR, Paul DORR, Robert BRANDHORST and Darrell WOOD.
