Born to Michael & Mary (Butts) Brown of Salt Creek Twp in Hamburg, Franklin Co IN, Liddy married Christopher Frondorf on 24 Feb 1853 in Hamilton Co OH. They had five children, one son and four daughters.
Sadly, not much is known about Liddy, but her Obituary was finally located.
The Daily Republican, 5 Jun 1914, Fri, Pg 3:
"DIES AT COUNTY ASYLUM
Mrs. Lydia Frondorf, Age 89 Years
Expires at Poor Farm.
Mrs. Lydia Frondorf, 89 years old, died last night at nine o'clock at the county asylum following a long illness. She had been in a serious condition for the last week. Death was due to senility and a complication of diseases. She had been an inmate of the farm for about six years. Mrs. Frondorf would have been 90 years old in November. She was the mother of Mrs. Orval Barlett of this city. The funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence of Ira Clevenger. Burial will take place in East Hill cemetery."
It is now clear why Lydia was in the Poor Farm. In those days, such a place was not just for the poor or homeless. Residents often included orphans, mentally and physically disabled, as well as the aged. Liddy was obviously in poor health when the 1910 census was taken. She had been a resident of the farm since 1908.
Liddy is my 3rd maternal Gr-Grandmother. There has been much debate over the spelling of her married name. Although I cannot post the actual Obituary here, please contact me if you would like a copy.
Rest in Peace dear Grandma. You will never be forgotten.
So many thanks to Shannon...without whose help I would not have found Lydia's family. Shannon has been an invaluable help to me and I am happy to have her as a relative and friend. Thanks Shannon!
Many thanks as well to members Bob L and Rob H, who have contributed so much of their time and help. My gratitude to you all.
