| Birth: | Jun. 19, 1845 | | Death: | Aug. 22, 1922 |  Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Private in Company K, 142nd New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in the combined Army-Navy assault and capture of Fort Fisher, North Carolina on January 15, 1865. His citation reads “Voluntarily advanced with the head of the column and cut down the palisading”. His Medal was issued on December 28, 1914, and was one of the last awarded for Civil War service. He was one of five 142nd New York Infantry soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Private Alaric B. Chapin, Private George Merrill, Private Zachariah C. Neahr and Captain William H. Walling). (bio by: Russ Dodge)
