John Boyle
Birth: Aug. 16, 1839
Death: Dec. 13, 1913

Lieutenant-Colonel Boyle assisted in raising troops for the Union in 1861. He was commissioned Captain & Assistant Adjutant General U.S. Volunteers by the President, confirmed by the Senate, but failed to receive a commission. He served with the 11th Brigade, Army of the Ohio, during the campaign & battle of Shiloh. After being ordered to Washington, Boyle was commissioned again before resigning to accept a commission as Lieutenant-Colonel 9th Kentucky Cavalry. He was mustered out at expiration of his term of service on September 11, 1863. Boyle participated in the battles of Perryville, Horseshoe Bend & other actions. He was then appointed Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky before resigning in 1864 to become a lawyer. In 1868 was elected State's Attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
