Veteran of the Civil War

Blair friends were apprised of the death of Joe L. Thompson at the Soldiers’ Home at Burkett, Nebr., last Tuesday. Deceased was an early resident of this city for many years until going to the Soldiers’ Home a few years ago. He was a veteran of the Civil War, a member of Co. D. 8th Iowa Infantry regiment in which he served through the war. The body was brought to Blair for burial on Thursday’s P. M. train from the west and taken in charge by the members of the G. A. R. of which deceased had been a member since its organization and conveyed to its last resting place in the Blair Cemetery, with appropriate ceremony. Had deceased lived until the 16th of May he would have reached his 82nd year.
