G. K. MORRETT
The many friends of George K. Morrett, of Benton township, were pained and surprised to learn of his sudden death, which occurred at his home on Friday morning, March 22, 1901. He had been ill for about two weeks with lagrippe and pneumonia, but death came suddenly and was due to heart failure.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. P. J. Vollmar of this city, were held at the family residence on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, after which the remains were gently laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery. The services at the grave were conducted by the Modern Woodmen of America, the deceased having been a worthy member of that order.
George K. Morrett was born July 15, 1858. On March 1st, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe A. Pulley, of Benton township, a union which proved to be one of the happiest and which was blessed by the birth of two children, Andy J., now six years old, and Ila Jane, aged two years.
Mr. Morrett was a model upright man, friend and citizen, whose life was well worthy of emulation. He was honored and respected by all who knew him and his death has caused profound sorrow. Social, pleasant and agreeable in every walk of life, he was a man of the strictest integrity, and possessed many sterling qualities. The lodge, his family and the community have, by his death, sustained an irreparable loss.
A mother, eighty years of age, three brothers and one sister are left, and with the bereaved wife and children, have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
