Wife of William D. Jones

Beacon: The announcement Wednesday morning that Mrs. Wm. Jones was dead and Mr. Jones was unconscious, was a great shock to the community. This aged couple have been residing alone in a small house near the home of their daughter, Mrs. David E. (Mary) Kendrick. On Wednesday morning Mrs. Kendrick made her customary call at the home of her parents and was surprised to find the door locked. With the assistance of a neighbor a door was forced open. Mrs. Jones was found lying upon the floor cold in death and Mr. Jones was in bed in an unconscious state, from which he never recovered, passing away at 3 p.m. The sudden and sad ending of the lives of these good people is accounted for in this way: Mr. Jones was subject to sinking spells and Mrs. Jones had heart trouble. It is presumed that Mr. Jones became unconscious and that in the excitement of the trying situation Mrs. Jones succumbed to heart failure. Wm. D. Jones and Mrs. Eleanor Jones were both about sixty-eight years of age. They came to Spirit Lake from Wisconsin six or seven years ago and have since made this place their home, spending a considerable time with their children. They both lived quiet Christian lives and were highly respected by all who knew them. They leave one son and five daughters: D. B. Jones, of Charles City, Miss Jennie L. Jones and Mrs. David E. (Mary) Kendrick, of this place, Mrs. Lizzie Jones, of Spencer, and Mrs. Jacob Wunn and Mrs. R. M. Davis, of Westport township. Funeral services will be conducted in the Presbyterian church this afternoon at two o'clock.
