Bessie Lee Wood Ridenour, age 99 of Newport, formerly of the Medford community in Lake City passed away March 10 at the home of her daughter in Newport. She was born June 21, 1905 in Campbell County, in the Agee community, now covered by the waters of Norris Dam. She was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the W.M.U. and the Medford F.C.E. She was a craft person, doing rug hooking, bottoming of chairs with corn shucks and making hats out of corn shucks. She made old fashioned bonnets, and did crocheting and quilting. She loved gardening and enjoyed canning and freezing the produce she raised. She sold craft items to a craft shop at the Museum of Appalachia, the Community Craft Center on Highway 61 and to craft stores in New York and Asheville, NC. Funeral services were March 12 at the Lake City United Methodist Church with Rev. Brenda Poole officiating. Interment was in the Norris Memorial Gardens in Norris.
