Richard G. "Dick" Miller, 91, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, W.Va.

He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Waynesburg, Pa., a son of the late Floyd H. and Elizabeth O. Miller. Dick was a graduate of Waynesburg College and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He brought his family to Parkersburg in 1955, when he accepted a trust officer's position with Wood County Bank. He spent most of his banking career with Mountain State Bank in south Parkersburg, serving there as vice president from 1963 until his retirement in 1988. His late wife, Mary Lu Miller, was an English teacher at Van Devender Junior High School.

Dick was an active participant in a wide variety of community activities in and around Parkersburg, including Little League, Pony League and Babe Ruth League baseball, Boys Clubs and 4-H Clubs, as well as terms on the Wood County Recreation Commission and the Public Service Commission.

He is a 54-year member of St. Andrews Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, among other leadership roles.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Baker of Waynesburg, Pa., and Mary Perrin of Avella, Pa.

He is survived by two sons, John G. (JoAnne) Miller of Springfield, Va., and Daniel (Debbie) Miller of South Charleston, W.Va.; a sister, Harriet Reed of Waynesburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. downtown Parkersburg. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
