Ruby Lee Hayden Fifer, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ruby was born in Rome, KY, on July 7, 1925 to the late Eugene and Ruby (Bishop) Hayden. Her brothers, Roy Delbert and Hubert Hayden, and a sister, Martine Hayden Powell, also preceded her in death.
The family moved to Indianapolis in 1928, where she remained the rest of her life. Following her education at Arsenal Tech High School, Ruby occupied a variety of jobs including working in a drug store, operating a punch press for Thomas and Skinner, Inc., and working at RCA. After her marriage to Walter Crane Fifer on May 14, 1948, she devoted the remainder of her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Ruby was a member of Arlington Heights Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Walter; daughters, Dianna Fifer-Wallace (Dave) and Sheila Reily (Doug Barton); sons, Jerry and Scott (Sara) Fifer; grandchildren, Andy Wallace, Christina (Jon) Speer, Tish (Brian) Haler, Shaun Fifer, Karri (Rick) Pierson, Kate Reily and David and Rebecca Fifer; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Speer, Courtney and Caleb Haler, Braden Fifer, and Hayden,
