Grover Bricker Sword, Sr., 79, of Blairs Valley, died Tuesday at the Washington County Hospital.

He was a life-resident of Blairs Valley, a son of the late Bessie Bricker and John C. Sword Sr. He was a self employed carpenter, and a member of Blairs Valley Church of God.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ethel Carbaugh Sword; sons, Norris E. Sword Sr. of Blairs Valley, Grover B. Sword Jr. and James C. Sword, both of Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Catherine Suffecool, Miss Florence Sword, and Mrs. Helen Keefer, all of Clear Spring; brothers, Fred Sword, John Sword, and Jesse Sword, all of Blairs Valley; and six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Blairs Valley Church of God. The Rev. Paul Moore will officiate; burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Thompson Funeral Home in Clear Spring at any time, and at the church one hour prior to the time of the service.
