|Birth: ||Apr., 1836|

William S. Truitt, 72, died in Chillicothe, Illinois on December 20, 1908. Born the son of Thomas Truitt and Catherine McCarty Truitt, April 1836. According to William's Death Certificate and the Cemetery records, he was 72yrs old at time of his death. Census Records are confusing but his marriage license does prove that he was the son of Thomas Truitt and Catherine McCarty Truitt, both of which, I, Cathi Truitt Steffens, have possession of from my father, John T. Truitt and my Uncle Charles Truitt. My Aunt's Mother spent over 50 years researching our direct line, and was Peoria County Clerk, Lifetime Member of the Illinois Genealogy Society as well as DAR. All of the Research is documented with birth, death and marriage certificates. She never published her research as she was doing it for her Grandchildren.
William S. Truitt married Miss Mahala Jane Burt, in Woodford County, IL on December 18, 1858. They are found in the 1860 Woodford County Census, along with son, John Aaron Truitt. The 1870 Spring Bay, Woodford County Census shows William, Mahala, and sons, John, William and James Truitt. Mrs. Mahala Jane Truitt, 38 yrs old, died March 24, 1879, leaving Mr. Truitt widowed with three sons. By the 1880 Census, William is shown residing in Chillicothe, Illinois, along with his three sons, and his Mother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Burt.
On April 22, 1885, William S. Truitt married again, to Margaret Meinyer, Chillicothe, Illinois.
