Los Angeles County
Musician, Producer. While still in his teens, living in San Mateo, California, he created and performed music with local groups. While playing with Giraffe in Los Angeles, in a Yamaha talent contest in 1989, he met famed producer/keyboardist Patrick Leonard. They formed the band “Toy Matinee,” releasing the self-titled debut to critical acclaim. He also produced records for Keith Emerson, Marc Bonilla and No Two, and recorded with Madonna and Michael Jackson. Afterward, along with producer Bill Bottrell and David Baerwald, Kevin Gilbert introduced Sheryl Crow into their circle.. Together they created the multi-million selling “Tuesday Night Music Club.” Kevin Gilbert settled in Eagle Rock, California, and built a world-class recording studio in nearby Pasadena, calling it ”Lawnmower & Garden Supply Studio,” named such because the building had previously been a lawnmower shop. He also composed soundtracks for television and movies, in addition to acting in the 1994 movie “Angel 4: Undercover,” (credited as ‘Kevin McThespian’). He eventually released his first solo record, “THUD.” Prior to his death, he was completing a rock opera “The Shaming Of The True.” The Gilbert estate has released the works “The Shaming Of The True,” “Live At The Troubadour,” “Giraffe” and “The Kaviar Sessions,” after his death.
