Company K, 3rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment Pvt/Pvt. Enlisted 17 May 1861 at Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee. Captured 16 Feb 1862 at Fort Donelson, Tennessee. Imprisoned at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois. Sent to Vicksburg, Mississippi for exchange 7 Sep 1862. Present at reorganization of regiment at Jackson, Mississippi 26 Sep 1862. Wounded in the left thigh at Jackson, Mississippi 14 Jul 1863. Sent to Loring’s Division Hospital at Macon, Mississippi. Detailed as nurse at Macon, Mississippi through Dec 1863. Declared disabled 12 Apr 1864 in Lauderdale Co., Mississippi and recommended to be detailed in the Medical Department. His services as Hospital Steward were requested by Surgeon N.C. Rigg of the 1st Missouri Light Artillery Battery, who said that “he has served with me for some time [and] is a reliable man.” This request was approved by the Assistant Adjutant General at Demopolis, Alabama 14 Apr 1864.

W. H. was the son of James S. Stone and Eliza Reece. He married Mary Eoline Nelson 7 Sep 1869. Their children were Mary Stone, Nelson Stone, and Will Stone. Age listed as 40 on 1880 Lincoln Co., Tennessee Census.
