Birth: Feb. 21, 1818
Laurens County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Jul. 4, 1893

From "A Genealogy Of The Clark Family", by Henry William Clark, 1905: Thomas Franklin Clark was born February 21, 1818, in Laurens District, South Carolina. He received a common school education, assisted at farm work and attended the neighboring schools from time to time as opportunity afforded. In 1836 he was a volunteer soldier and served three months in the war with the Creek Indians; following this he was one year on the road with a fine mule team hauling from place to place. He then spent about four years in Alabama and Mississippi "sowing wild oats". Returning to Georgia he spent one year on his father's farm and then went back to Mississippi, spent some years in that state and in Alabama, and in 1846 went to Washington County, Texas. In May of that year volunteered and served three months with a company of Texas Rangers in the war with Mexico. In the fall of 1846 he returned to the state of Georgia and on September 12, 1849 was happily married to E. C. McNair, settled in Henry County and engaged in farming. In 1855 he was engaged in tanning with his brother-in-law B. J. Flowers at Snapping Shoals, Georgia. In 1857 he bought a tannery at Key's Ferry and also the ferry, and remained there until 1867 when he sold out and again engaged in farming for some years near Jackson, Butts County, Georgia. Being advanced in years he finally retired from active business pursuits; was a good and respected citizen, esteemed as such by his neighbors. His wife died July 8, 1855, and on June 1, 1856 he married Nancy Clark of Butts County, Georgia, who died without issue December 18, 1895. He died July 4, 1893. Children of Thomas F. and E. C. McNair Clark: 1.Homer Courtney Clark 1850, married Sallie Clark2.Julia Harriet Clark 1855, married 1st Elbert Usher, married 2nd John P. Weatherbee
