Corrections have been made to this memorial to reflect the unknown nature of his burial (as opposed to the likely incorrect exact details previously given). Enoch Shiver was born to (at this time) unknown parents in Kershaw County, South Carolina. He moved into Georgia and resided in Dooly County, Georgia in 1830 and 1840, where he can be found in the census. Speculation as to his being the son of either James or John Shiver (both sons of John Shiver of Kershaw County, SC) has largely been disproven.

Enoch was the likely brother of Manning, Fleming, and Ransom Shiver. These four men interacted extensively in legal documents, administered one another's wills, named children after one another, and two of them married sisters. Neither James nor John (sons of John of Kershaw Co.) have enough male children living with them in the census to have been the father of these brothers.

Enoch married Dedemiah (maiden name unknown) about 1824 in Georgia and were the parents of at least nine children:

Sarah Ann Elizabeth Shiver , b. 7 May 18264 probably in Dooly Co., Georgia

John W Shiver, b. 1828 probably in Dooly Co., Georgia

Rebecca Shiver, b. Mar 1833 in Dooly Co., Georgia

Martha Ann Shiver, b. 23 Jul 1834 in Dooly Co., Georgia

Ransom Shiver, b. 28 Jan 1836 in Dooly Co., Georgia

Mary A "Polly" Shiver, b. 6 Jul 1839 in Dooly Co., Georgia

James Allen Shiver, b. 28 Jan 1840 in Dooly Co., Georgia

Eliza Shiver, b. 10 May 1843 Dooly Co., Georgia

Marion Harmon Shiver, b. 14 Dec 1844 in Dooly Co., Georgia

Enoch is listed in the 1845 Baker County, Georgia tax list. It is likely that he had moved there by this time. His death occurred some time between this tax year and 1850 when he is not listed with his wife and children in the 1850 Baker Co. census. Unfortunately, both Baker and Dooly counties suffered extensive record losses for the time period that Enoch's death would have occurred. Additional research needs to be done to determine his parents' names, his spouse's maiden name, and when and where he died.

This memorial has been updated to reflect what is known about Enoch without including unknown specifics.
