Furman J. Hornbeck, 76, retired New York Central railroad conductor who resided at 127 North Hamilton street, died last night in St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Hornbeck, who had been retired the last three years, had been a conductor with the New York Central for 44 years.
Coming to this city from Goshen 47 years ago to make his home, Mr. Hornbeck had been a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, was a member of Triune Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, for 25 years and had been a member of Poughkeepsie Lodge of Moose.
Born in Montela, N. Y., Feb. 27, 1881, Mr. Hornbeck was the son of the late Byron and Mary Furman Hornbeck. His wife, Mrs. Clara L. Lybolt, died in 1940.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Gordon R. Hornbeck, Peekskill physician; a granddaughter, Mrs. Barbara C. Villetto, Peekskill; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Lansky, West New York, N. J., and several nieces and nephews including Clyde and Archie Hornbeck, Clark Township, N. J.; Harold, Ralph, Gordon and Carl Sheeley; Lawrence Smith, Kenneth Brooks, and Mrs. Rita Hartley and Mrs. Vera Moshier.
Funeral services will be conducted at 20 Smith street, at 10:30 o'clock, Monday. The Rev. William T. Gray, rector St. Paul's Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Poplar Grove cemetery, Phillipsport, under the direction of the McCornac funeral service. Friends may call at 20 Smith street, Saturday and Sunday nights.
Services of Triune Lodge will be conducted at 20 Smith street, at 7 o'clock, Sunday night and of Poughkeepsie Lodge, Loyal Order of the Moose, at 8 o'clock.
