Born in Dakota County, Minnesota, He was educated at Carleton College and admitted to the bar in 1888. He served as Ramsey County Attorney (1892-96), as President of the Minnesota State Bar Association. (1912-22) and specialized in railroad law winning approximately $12,000,000 for the Toronto Street Railway shareholders. Nominated to United States Supreme Court by President Warren G.
