Son of James Olohan & Anne Garrigan, both of whom were born in Ireland.
Peter arrived in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County, CA when he was approximately 22 years old (c.1882). He was industrious, hard-working, and quite involved in all the local affairs of the town. He owned shares in the town's first bank, owned 2 saloons, owned the Sunset Telephone Company, had shares in oil wells, was a walnut farmer & liquor merchant, and was involved in the construction plans of the town's first post office.
Pete purchased an old hotel in the center of Arroyo Grande which is still standing - it has been converted to a small office building and it is known as the 'P. Olohan Building'. A framed photograph of Peter Olohan is hanging in the hallway of this building (see the photograph attached to this memorial). He lived in Arroyo Grande for over 40 years of his life, contributing to the development and expansion of the town. He retired to San Mateo, CA c.1925.
Peter was married to his cousin, Agnes Olohan, in NY on 9/16/1912. Agnes was born in Wicklow, Ireland in 1873. She was a National Teacher in Ireland, and highly educated. Agnes Olohan remarried after Peter's death - her married name when she died in 1946 was AGNES BURKE. Agnes is also buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA.
