Guitar Innovator. For over five decades, he played a pivotal role in the development of some of the most important electric guitar instruments of the 20th century. In the mid-1940s, as a talented working musician with a keen interest in electronics, he became friends with Leo Fender. The two became business associates when Fender enlisted Fullerton as production supervisor of his fledgling Fender Electric Instrument Company in February 1948. With his artistic sense and natural ability to translate ideas into practical processes and machinery on the shop floor, Fullerton is credited with the creation of the world's first successful solid-body electric guitar the Fender Esquire, also the renowned Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass guitars. He became vice president of production in April 1959 and remained Leo Fender's business partner until they both retired from the Fender Company in 1970. Shortly there after he teamed again with Leo Fender at the Music Man Amplifier Company, creating a new line of guitars. In 1980, Fullerton co-founded G&L Musical Instruments with Leo Fender. With his new company, he continued to build a unique quality line of electric guitars and basses which are still in production to date as industry standards. Coming full circle, Fullerton returned to the Fender Corporation in 2007, with the introduction of the Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition George Fullerton 50th Anniversary Stratocaster guitar and Relic Tweed Pro Junior Amp. In August 2010, he was inducted into the Fender Hall of Fame. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
