Ressie, a native of Indiana, was daughter of Butler K. and Malinda (Eaton) Smith. She was married in 1893 to W. C. Davisson of Ohio, and they lived in Indianapolis for a number of years.

In the first years of the twentieth century they moved to Charleston, West Virginia, where they made their home at 1518 Quarrier Street.
Ressie was a member of Circle 5, Women's Auxiliary of the First Presbyterian Church; the Charleston Women's Club; and was member of the Board of Directors at the founding of the Charleston YWCA.
